Harwell D-Day Evening Service
At the end of the main runway of the former RAF Harwell sits a memorial to the aircrew and troops carried in the back, and towed in gliders who took off on 5th June 1944.
While Harwell RBL hold an annual parade on the Saturday evening closest to the 6th June (this year being Saturday 8th), on significant anniversary years we hold an additional remembrance evening on the 5th June which sees us gather at the Memorial on the anniversary of aircraft taking off.
In recognition of the 80th Anniversary, Harwell Branch is holding a Festival of Remembrance at the stone, which will include a historical telling of the part RAF Harwell played, 2 minutes silence and musical interludes from a band.
