This year’s Annual General Meeting saw an excellent turnout, with nearly every seat occupied by riders both new and experienced, some travelling considerable distances. The strong attendance reflected the core strengths of our Branch namely camaraderie, engaging discussion, and a shared confidence in our future.
A notable distinction from previous AGMs was the presence of National Chair Lynda Atkins, Guest speaker, Membership Executive Director Nina Villa, National Branches District Chair Jayne Cosgrove, and four Members of the Membership Council. Except for Nina, all are currently members of our Branch, and we look forward to welcoming Nina soon.
The afternoon featured awards presented to members nominated by Regional / County representatives and or the Branch Members. Unlike previous years, we received a substantial number of deserving nominations, which were carefully reviewed by the Branch Committee during the October meeting according to established criteria.
As highlighted in my AGM report, the receipt of an award should not overshadow the contributions of other members who also demonstrated outstanding service; rather, it reflects the RBL mantra of “Service Not Self,” a principle to which I am proud to belong.
Having served on the Committee since 2017, I can confidently say that this was among the most successful AGMs we have held. Senior representatives from Haig House, many being longstanding riders themselves, noted the balance achieved between necessary formality and a relaxed, inclusive environment. This approach sets a standard for the future of the RBL.
Thank you to all who attended. I look forward to seeing everyone next year, and encourage you to invite more riders to participate.
Kind regards,
Simon Appleby-Somerville
Branch Chairman
